Finley's Wine Bar: redesigning a website for new ownership

For my first freelance project, I was commissioned to design a new Squarespace website for Finley's Wine Bar following a change in ownership.

The client wanted to retain elements of the existing brand, including its primary colour, while introducing a fresher, more personal feel. We explored a broader pink colour palette and greater use of photography, including imagery of the bar's distinctive pink wall.

Before the final designs were completed, the sale of the bar fell through and the project came to an end. I've included the work here because it gave me valuable experience of independently managing a client project, from interpreting the initial brief and establishing a visual direction to presenting and refining design concepts. As the project ended early, the designs shown here do not include the final imagery, content or animations that had been planned.

Process

Meeting 1

Established the number of pages required and what each would include
Developed a moodboard to capture the cosy yet fresh atmosphere the client wanted for the new website

Meeting 2

Presented low fidelity greyscale wireframes to discuss the overall layout and interface.
Discussed colour and typography with the client, then used Claude to support the development of a more detailed style guide for the website

Meeting 3

Presented the initial designs to the client, gathered feedback and identified areas to refine
Discussed the additional content and imagery needed from the client
